Highway U.S.1, better known as the Overseas Highway, is the main street of the Keys. You will see little green mile marker signs from the junction with the Florida Turnpike and U.S. 1 at Florida City all the way to Key West. The Key West Post Office, which is the County Seat, is mile number zero. This makes for a very handy tool because almost all of the locations in the Keys are identified with their mile markers. The mile marker is the first two numbers in their address. Addresses ending with even numbers are on the Gulf side and odd numbers on the Atlantic side. Read More….
